Taichi for Mindfulness

What is Taichi for Mindfulness?

Taichi for Mindfulness blends slow, circular movement with breath awareness and brief stillness. The practice invites the nervous system to settle, posture to soften, and attention to return home. Rather than “working out,” we work in—cultivating relaxed power, balance, and ease.

What you’ll experience

  • Stress relief & emotional steadiness through breath-led pacing
  • Better focus & sleep via rhythmic movement and simple forms
  • Posture, balance & joint comfort without strain or impact
  • A felt sense of presence—clear, grounded, and kind toward your body

Our approach is trauma-informed and choice-based. You can pause, adapt, or sit at any time.

Who this class is for

  • Beginners to movement or meditation
  • Folks navigating stress, fatigue, or “busy mind”
  • People with sensitive joints, chronic pain, or limited mobility
  • Caregivers, educators, and helping professionals seeking sustainable practices

No prior Taichi or meditation experience needed.

Class format (60–75 minutes)

  1. Arrival & breath (5–10 min): Gentle grounding, posture check-in.
  2. Warm-up (10–15 min): Joint circles, spinal mobility, balance prep (chair options).
  3. Core practice (25–35 min): Simple Taichi patterns (e.g., open/close, cloud hands, weight shifts) with mindful cues.
  4. Stillness & integration (5–10 min): Seated or standing quiet, guided body scan.
  5. Closing (3–5 min): Reflection prompt and home-practice tip.

Chair-based variations are demonstrated throughout. You may remain seated the entire session.

Our guiding principles

  • Relax first → balance and strength follow
  • Body–mind unity → breath and attention lead movement
  • Accessibility → every sequence can be done seated or standing
  • Cultural respect → rooted in Chen-style Taijiquan heritage, shared with care

Frequently asked questions

Do I need prior experience?
No. We build gradually and repeat core patterns so your body can learn at a relaxed pace.

Is this like yoga or seated meditation?
It’s complementary: Taichi for Mindfulness is moving meditation—slow, coordinated steps and arms with brief stillness.

Can I practice entirely in a chair?
Yes. Every section has a seated option, including balance training.

Is it safe for arthritis or osteoporosis?
We use low-impact ranges and emphasize alignment, breath, and control. Please check with your clinician if you have concerns.

What should I wear?
Loose, comfortable clothing and flat shoes with good contact.

How does the Zoom option work?
You’ll receive a link after registration. Place a chair nearby, keep water handy, and position your camera if you’d like movement feedback.

Can I drop in?
Yes, though a series supports deeper learning. See current schedule for options.
