Taichi for Youth & Family

Why Taichi for kids & caregivers

  • Self-regulation & focus: Short breath and movement cycles to settle energy before homework, bedtime, or sports.
  • Balance & coordination: Gentle patterns improve posture, core strength, and body awareness.
  • Emotional literacy: Name feelings, notice sensations, and choose supportive actions.
  • Family connection: Simple partner exercises that spark trust, patience, and joy.

Our approach blends traditional Taijiquan principles with child-friendly games and mindful breaks.

Who it’s for

  • Youth: ages 6–9 (Foundations), 10–13 (Skills), 14–17 (Teen practice & stress relief)
  • Family/Caregiver classes: one adult plus one or more children (siblings welcome)

Beginners, neurodiverse learners, and youth with limited mobility are welcome. Seated options available.

Class format (45–60 minutes)

  • Arrive & settle (5 min) — name/feeling check-in, “weather report” of the body.
  • Warm-up (10 min) — joint circles, animal walks, balance play (chair options).
  • Core practice (20–25 min) — short Taichi patterns (“cloud hands,” “open/close,” weight shifts).
  • Partner/family game (5–10 min) — mirror movement, push-the-wall, balance relay.
  • Cool-down & rest (5–10 min) — guided breathing, “quiet rock,” gratitude share.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need prior experience?
No. We introduce one or two simple patterns each week and repeat them.

Can my child stay seated?
Yes. Every activity has a seated version.

How many kids per adult for family class?
1–3 children per adult works well. Let us know if you need a different setup.

What if my child is shy or energetic?
Totally fine. We use short, rhythmic sequences and quiet breaks so everyone can participate at their own pace.

Do you offer school or library programs?
Yes—ask about our on-site workshops and educator trainings.

Language support?
Bilingual options available (English–Chinese). Please note your preference during registration.
