A 4-Week Journey for Balance, Culture, and Well-Being

In honor of AAPI Heritage Month & Mental Health Awareness Month

This special May program offers a gentle introduction to Taichi as both a mind–body practice for well-being and a living cultural tradition rooted in balance and harmony.

Through simple, guided sessions, participants will learn how to release tension, improve body awareness, and cultivate a sense of calm that can be carried into daily life. No prior experience is needed, and all movements are accessible and adaptable.

What participants will experience

  • gentle, guided movement to support relaxation and reduce stress
  • simple practices to improve balance, posture, and body awareness
  • a calm, welcoming space to pause and reconnect
  • insights into the cultural and philosophical foundations of Taichi

Rather than focusing on performance or memorizing forms, the program emphasizes ease, awareness, and natural movement.

Program Structure

  • Duration:  4 weeks (May 2026)
  • Frequency:  2 sessions per week
  • Session length: 60 minutes
  • Format:  Live virtual sessions (Zoom)
  • Level: Beginner-friendly, no experience required

Weekly Themes

Week 1 — Relaxation (松): Letting go of tension
Learn how to release unnecessary effort and allow the body to settle naturally.

Week 2 — Awareness: Connecting body and mind
Develop deeper awareness of movement, breath, and internal sensation.

Week 3 — Balance (守中): Finding stability and center
Explore grounding, alignment, and confidence in movement.

Week 4 — Integration: Bringing practice into daily life
Apply simple Taichi principles to everyday activities and moments of stress.

Cultural Context (AAPI Heritage Month)

Taichi (Taijiquan) is a traditional Chinese practice that reflects the principle of balance (Yin–Yang)—the dynamic harmony between opposites such as effort and ease, movement and stillness.

In this program, participants will be introduced to these ideas in a simple and practical way, connecting cultural understanding with personal experience.

Mental Well-Being (Mental Health Awareness Month)

Each session is designed to support:

  • stress reduction
  • emotional regulation
  • improved focus and clarity
  • a sense of grounding and calm

The approach is gentle and non-clinical, offering an accessible way to care for mental well-being through the body.

About the Instructor

The program is guided by Dr. Ying Wang, founder of Mindful Taichi Co., a 13th-generation Chen-style Taijiquan practitioner with over 15 years of mindfulness experience. Her teaching emphasizes simplicity, relaxation, and embodied awareness in a supportive and inclusive environment.
